BACKCOUNTRY & SELF-SERVICE CAMPING
Shoreline Comforts. Got a boat? Need to camp? Spend the night at one of our Lake Access Areas!
Land Between The Lakes has seven self-service campgrounds and 15 designated backcountry camping areas offering year-round lakeside camping. Although these areas offer less ammenities than developed campgrounds, they offer more peace, solitude, and a more primitive camping experience in LBL.
Self-service camping offer some basic amenities like campsites, picnic tables, grills, chemical toilets, drinking water, trash pickup and boat ramps. You can find a Lake Access Area on the shores of either Kentucky or Barkley Lake at selected points on the LBL peninsula. They are: Birmingham Ferry, Smith Bay, Cravens Bay, Fenton, Gatlin Point and Rushing Creek/Jones Creek Campground.
Rushing Creek Campground on Kentucky Lake, offers additional amenities; 40 basic campsites capable of handling an RV or tent,
plus restrooms and showers (seasonally), picnic pavilions, a multi-purpose play court,
and playground equipment. A boat ramp is available at Jones Creek.
Designated Backcountry Camping Areas are more basic: they have boat ramps and may have campsites, picnic tables and grills. There may be trash pick-up and chemical toliets in some areas.
A nightly per unit fee is required for Self-Service Camping Areas. A Backcountry Permit is required to camp most anywhere in LBL, except for fee areas.
See our Hours & Fees Page for more information. Be sure to get a copy of the Rules & Regulations when you purchase your Backcountry Permit.
