HISTORIC HOT SPOTS

The Fort Henry Trail System travels through an area rich in Civil War history. The trails follow the path of General Grant's troops after the fall of Fort Henry as they marched on Fort Donelson.

Center Furnace Trail. The region's history as a center for iron production is interpreted on this easy walk. See the huge Center Furnace ruins and the massive charcoal furnace.

Old farmhouses, homesteads and cemeteries recall the time before LBL became a National Recreation Area -- when towns such as Mint Spring, Tennessee and Golden Pond, Kentucky were active and LBL was still known as "Between the Rivers." This old homestead is about two miles into the Picket Loop of the Fort Henry Trail.
