NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ACT (NEPA)
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is our basic charter for protection of the environment and for public disclosure of environmental effects. NEPA establishes policy, sets goals, and provides means of carrying out the policy.

PROJECT PLANNING AND DECISION MAKING
Project-level planning and decision making involves the analysis of activities designed to achieve the goals, objectives, and desired condition outlined in the Land and Resource Management Plan. Some of these projects require compliance with requirements in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Such activities could include prescribed burning to restore an ecosystem, restoration of an oak-grassland area, development of a nature watch area, renovation of a lake access area, or a commercial timber harvest. Recent NEPA documents for LBL can be accessed through the links below.

SCHEDULE OF PROPOSED ACTIONS: (SOPA)

The Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) is published in January, April, July, and October. It contains a list of proposed actions that will soon begin or are currently undergoing environmental analysis and documentation, pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). It provides information so that you can become aware of and indicate your interest in specific proposals. We encourage your early and ongoing involvement in any proposals of interest to you.

TRIBAL PROJECT CONSULTATION

Tribal Section 106 consultation is now being coordinated with NEPA project planning to address concerns of the Tribes early in project development and to meet the requirements of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 as amended, the American Indian Freedom of Religion Act, the Archaeological Resources Protection Act and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.

If your Tribe has information, comments, or concerns related to historic properties with traditional or religious significance, please email them to comments-southern-land-between-lakes@fs.fed.us with the project name and Tribal Comment in the subject heading.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

Section 106 public participation is also now coordinated with NEPA project planning. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments related to heritage compliance for any of the projects on the current SOPA listing, please email them to comments-southern-land-between-lakes@fs.fed.us with the project name and Heritage Comment in the subject heading.
